EATING DISORDERS
We support people experiencing the full range of eating difficulties, from anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder and ARFID, to difficulties that may not fit neatly into a diagnosis. This might include a challenging relationship with food or body image, chronic dieting, restrictive eating, emotional eating or food fears.
We offer therapies recommended by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and draw from the approaches below to tailor treatment to your individual goals and preferences. Your care will be flexible, compassionate and never one-size-fits-all.
CBT-E / CBT for Eating Disorders
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Eating Disorders (CBT-E) is a structured, evidence-based treatment recommended by NICE for eating disorders including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and binge eating disorder.
CBT-E helps you understand and change the thoughts, emotions and behaviours that
maintain an eating disorder. Treatment may focus on establishing regular eating patterns, reducing bingeing and compensatory behaviours, addressing body image concerns and developing healthier ways of coping.
CBT-T PLUS
CBT-T is a focused, NICE-recommended treatment programme designed to support
meaningful change in your relationship with food, eating and body image. Our unique CBT-T PLUS programme adds specialist dietetic support to the standard CBT-T approach, combining 10 CBT-T sessions with a specialist eating disorder practitioner and 2 dedicated sessions with our HCPC-registered specialist dietitian. This provides joined-up psychological and nutritional support within one programme. Sessions are offered weekly or fortnightly, typically over 12–24 weeks, with ongoing follow-up support available afterwards if required.
CBT-AR for ARFID
CBT-AR is a specialised treatment for Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID). It focuses on food avoidance, sensory sensitivities and anxiety around eating, using gradual exposure to increase food variety and reduce distress around food.
MANTRA
The Maudsley Model of Anorexia Nervosa Treatment for Adults (MANTRA) is a gentle,
collaborative therapy that explores the factors maintaining an eating disorder, while
supporting motivation, emotional regulation, relationships and identity.
SSCM
Specialist Supportive Clinical Management (SSCM) is a flexible, person-centred approach
that supports gradual changes in eating behaviour while exploring the personal meaning and function of the eating disorder.
Eating Disorder Nutrition & Dietetics
Our HCPC-registered Specialist Eating Disorder Dietitian and member of the British
Dietetic Association (BDA), offers nutritional support either alongside psychological therapy or as a standalone service. Support may include meal planning, nutritional education, challenging food fears, increasing dietary variety and rebuilding trust in your body's signals. We also offer supported eating and practical food sessions, including eating out together and cooking or meal preparation. These sessions can help build confidence with food and develop skills that support recovery in everyday life.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing)
EMDR is an evidence-based trauma therapy offered as a standalone treatment or alongside specialist eating disorder treatment. For some people, eating difficulties may be connected to traumatic experiences, while living with an eating disorder can itself be distressing or traumatic. Where appropriate, EMDR can be used to help process these experiences and form part of a wider eating disorder treatment plan.
